The U.S. Coast Survey was created in 1807 and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) was established on October 3, 1970. NOAA exists to address "compelling needs for better protection of life and property from natural hazards." Over 10,000 submerged wrecks and obstructions in the U.S. coastal waters are indexed.

MAUDE is the "Manufacturer and User Facility Device Experience" database maintained by FDA. The FDA makes medical device reports available to patients and health care providers to help them make more informed medical decisions. Public health issues may involve a specific individual device or multiple devices.
This database contains Medical Device Recalls classified since November 2002. Since January 2017, it may also include correction or removal actions initiated by a firm prior to review by the FDA. The status is updated if the FDA identifies a violation and classifies the action as a recall and again when the recall is terminated.
